How Whirlpool-Family Serial Numbers Work

Whirlpool's serial format is shared across KitchenAid, Roper, Estate, and — since Whirlpool's 2006 acquisition — Maytag, Amana, Jenn-Air & Admiral. The date is encoded starting at the 2nd character:

Why some results show one year and others show several: unlike LG or GE, not every Whirlpool-family serial is ambiguous. If your year code is one of the 10 "2000s-only" letters, we can tell you the exact year with confidence. If it's a digit or one of the other 10 letters, more than one decade is mathematically possible from the serial alone, and we'll show every realistic candidate rather than guessing.

This tool is based on Whirlpool's publicly documented serial number format and is provided as a helpful estimate. It is not an official Whirlpool lookup service, and results should be treated as a best estimate rather than a certainty.

Frequently Asked Questions

How old is my Whirlpool refrigerator/washer/dryer?

Enter the serial number from the model tag above. We'll read the year code and week number and tell you the manufacture year (or the realistic candidate years, if the code is ambiguous) and approximate month.

Does this work for KitchenAid, Maytag, or Amana appliances?

Yes — KitchenAid, Roper, and Estate always use this same format. Maytag and Amana use it for units made in 2006 or later, after Whirlpool acquired both brands. Older Maytag/Amana units use a different, earlier format we haven't added yet.

Why does the tool show a week number instead of a month?

Whirlpool's serial number literally encodes the week of the year (1-52), not the month. We convert that week into an approximate month so it's easier to read, but the week number is the more precise figure if you need it.
