Answered by GIR Technician, GIR Appliance Repair · October 16, 2026
❓ The question
LG Refrigerator Model LFCS27596S Age: 4–7 years

“Water is leaking by valve. Also not filling ice cub tray”

Not making ice started a week ago. I ran test on ice maker and it rotates and dumps cube tray but no water fills tray. Pulled it out from wall and found water on floor. Appears to be leaking where hose attaches valve but connection is tight

Thanks for the clear description. You’re dealing with two symptoms, and on the LG LFCS27596S they can have one cause or two separate ones. Turn off the water supply to the refrigerator first, then dry the floor. A slow leak behind a fridge can damage flooring and subfloor before you notice it.

1. The leak at the water valve

The water inlet valve sits low on the back of the refrigerator, behind the lower access cover. If water appears where the supply line connects even though the nut is tight, one of these is usually the cause:

  • A cracked valve body or inlet fitting. The plastic inlet can crack from age, overtightening or a pressure spike. Then no amount of tightening stops the leak, and the valve must be replaced.
  • A damaged ferrule or worn supply line. If your supply line is copper or plastic tubing with a compression ferrule, a deformed ferrule leaks even when tight. A new braided supply line with a built-in fitting usually fixes this.
  • A leak from a connection above. Water from a loose tube inside the cabinet can run down and drip near the valve. Dry everything, turn the water back on and watch with a flashlight to see where the first drop forms.

2. The ice tray not filling

Your test was exactly right. The ice maker rotates and dumps, so the ice maker itself is working, and the problem is water not reaching the tray. On LG French-door models, the usual causes are:

  • A frozen fill tube. This is the most common cause on LG. Look at the small tube that feeds the tray from the back of the ice compartment. If it’s blocked with ice, thaw it gently with a hair dryer on low.
  • The ice side of the inlet valve. The valve has separate outlets for the dispenser and the ice maker. If the water dispenser works but the tray never fills, the ice-maker side of the valve has probably failed.
  • A clogged water filter. Replace it if it’s more than 6 months old.

If the valve body is cracked and the ice side doesn’t open, a single new inlet valve fixes both problems. Make sure you get the exact part for your model number.
