Hi James, happy to help. Your GE range was made in May 2020, so it’s about five and a half years old.
How we read it
GE puts the date in the first two letters of the serial number. In HR214941P:
- H is the month: May.
- R is the year. GE’s year letters repeat every 12 years, so R can mean 1996, 2008 or 2020.
The model JGB635REK4SS is from GE’s current gas range line, which didn’t exist in 2008. So 2020 is the right year.
What that means for you
A gas range usually lasts 13–15 years, often longer, so yours is still young. Parts like igniters, burner caps and oven sensors are easy to find for this model. If you’re buying it used, check that all four burners light quickly and that the oven heats to the set temperature. Those are the most common issues on gas ranges of any age.
You can also use our GE age lookup tool for any other GE appliances in the house.
