Hi Frances, good idea to check before you buy. From the photo of the label, this LG dryer was made in February 2023, so it’s about two and a half years old.
How we read it
LG puts the date at the start of the serial number. In 302KWCF2Y099:
- 3 is the last digit of the year.
- 02 is the month: February.
The DLEX5170W came out in 2019, so the “3” can only mean 2023.
Check the washer too
The washer has its own label, usually inside the door frame or on the back. The first three digits of its serial number work the same way. Pairs sold together are often the same age, but not always.
A few things to check before you buy a used LG dryer
- Run it for 10 minutes on a hot setting and make sure the air inside gets properly hot.
- Listen while it tumbles. A squeal or thumping means worn rollers or an idler pulley (not expensive, but good to know).
- Pull out the lint filter. If it’s caked with lint, the vent hasn’t been kept clean either, so plan to clean the vent hose at your house.
- This is a steam model, so it needs a cold water connection to use the steam cycles.
At this age, it should have plenty of good years ahead. Enjoy your new set!
