Hi Jeff, you’ve done the right things already. Cleaning the filter and sump and replacing that kinked hose are the first steps. Since E24 still comes back, here’s what I’d check next, in order.
1. Clear the code properly
Bosch can remember E24 even after the blockage is gone. Press and hold Start for about 3 seconds to cancel and drain, then turn the dishwasher off at the breaker for a minute. Then try a normal cycle.
2. Check the drain pump impeller
This is the most common cause I find after people have already cleaned the filter. Under the filter there’s a small cover over the drain pump.
- Turn off power. Take out the filter and sponge out any water.
- Pry up the small cover with a spoon handle (it clips in at one side).
- Look for broken glass, a fruit pit, a label or a small bone. Remove it.
- Turn the impeller with your finger. It should spin, but with a little jerky resistance (that’s the magnet, it’s normal). If it won’t move at all or grinds, the pump is jammed or worn out.
3. Check the other end of the hose
- Garbage disposal: if the hose goes to a disposal that was installed recently, the knockout plug inside the disposal inlet may never have been removed. Also run the disposal before you start the dishwasher.
- Air gap (the little chrome cap on the sink, if you have one): pull the cover off and clean it out. They clog more often than people expect.
- The hose should loop up high under the counter and must not be pushed more than about 6 inches into the drain pipe.
4. The check valve
Where the hose connects to the pump there’s a small rubber flap (a non-return valve). If it’s stuck shut or curled, water can’t get out even with a good pump and a clear hose. Since you already had the hose off, check that it moves freely.
If all of that is clear
The fact that it drains with the drain function but fails a full wash points to a weak drain pump. A pump that’s getting weak can drain a little standing water, but then times out on a full drain during a cycle. On your SHP865ZP5N the drain pump is a common, moderately priced part, and at 4–7 years old the dishwasher is well worth fixing.
